Allow me to thank you for allowing me to know you! First of all, let me introduce myself, my name is Widiyanti Winata, you can call me Yanti.
I was born on October 19th, 1988 and I have one brother. My parents divorced when we were little children and we lived with our father and grandparents. Since our father already passed away a long time ago, we were raised by our grandparents. My grandmother passed away when I was in the 6th grade of secondary school. After the death of our grandmother I lived in the orphanage of Ms. Rosa (ABAS). I can continue my education there, and I can live and am treated as her own daughter. My brother lived with our uncle. My grandfather died shortly after I moved into the orphanage.
In ABAS orphanage, I have a big family, they gave me a chance to continue my education and I also learned many other things. Although I feel very sad every time I remember my mother, since she didn’t know that I live in this orphanage. However, I finally got a chance to meet my mother, with Ms Rosa’s help. My mother took me with her when I was still in the second year of high school. This was a tough decision for me, since life will never be the same like in the orphanage. I have to struggle to survive every day, and all I can think of is to be able to work as soon as I graduate from my Senior High school. I have great faith in God that he will provide me with my needs, and He has proved it up to now, I have a job! Currently I live in Jakarta, in a kind of boarding house, I rent a room there for myself.
After 5 years, I met Ms Rosa again, and she offered to help me to continue my education at a higher level, I really want to continue my education to get my bachelor degree. Unfortunately my financial situation doesn’t allow me to do so. Again with Ms Rosa’s help, I have managed to register at a college in Jakarta, and I will start my first day as a college student in October 2009 (In October I will be 21 th years old).
I am aware that my wages will not be sufficient to fund my education and at the same time to support my daily life, and again Ms Rosa informed me about you and your noble purpose to support the continuity of my education. If it is possible and convenient for you, I dare to ask a favour to support my dreams, to continue my education, with a financial support of IDR 4.500.000,- or around EUR 300,- (EUR 1,- = IDR 15.000,-) per semester (6 months).
I really hope this will be my stepping stone to improve my life in the future, as one’s said that instead of giving someone a fish, it is better to provide him/her with a fish net.
